Higher Education in NRW
There are different institutions of higher education in NRW: universities and polytechnics, universities of applied sciences which offer practice-oriented academic education, and colleges of art and music. With almost 60 universities and colleges, NRW is the leading federal state concerning the number of institutions of higher education in Germany:

Each German university has a Foreign Student Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt) which is responsible for questions relating to foreign applicants and students. All applications of non-EU applicants have to be submitted at the respective Foreign Student Office.

Tuition fees From Summer 2007 on, fees in the amount of EUR 500 per semester are obligatory. For more information on fees and costs of living click here.
Scholarships and financial aids The DAAD, which is the German institution for the support of international academic exchange, grants a variety of scholarships for students and scientists from Israel who would like to study or research in NRW. To apply for these scholarships, please contact the German Embassy.
The European Erasmus Mundus programme provides EU-funded scholarships for non-EU nationals participating in Masters Courses.
Furthermore, there is a special scholarship for Israeli students granted by the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The multidisciplinary oriented Research Centre Jülich offers scholarships for Bachelor and Master students in the fields of Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Physics, Biology, Material Science, Chemistry, Biology (analytical chemistry) and Environmental Sciences.Basic requirements to study in Germany
- Bagrut or equal school education qualification
- Student VISA (or German/EU citizenship)
- German language test, DSH or TestDaF (except International Degree Programs)
- Proof of financial security, i.e. a proof of the disposal of about EUR 700 per month
